March 29, 2010

Today, March 29, 2010 we arrived in Morro Bay at 3:45 PM.   Todays ride was 79 miles with a few hills and lots of headwind.  The scenery was beautiful and was very enjoyable in spite of the hills and headwind.   Just outside of Lompoc was a hill called Harris Grade.  Very similar to Turnbull Canyon in LA County.  The vistas were very nice.  Lots of green and flowers galore!  Passed thru many vinyards.   Saw quite a few cattle and horses in patures along the way.  Rode thru many small interesting towns.  Total mileage as of today is 79 miles today plus 193 on the previous days for a grand total of 272 miles.   Remember you can check out my progress on this ride by clicking on the “Where Am I” button and you can donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or help us with our costs by clicking on the “Donate: button.  Til then…Saving Lives One Mile at a Time.

Today, March 28, 2010 I arrived in Lompoc, CA at 4:50 PM on the second leg of our ride for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Remember to check us out on our website:  JACOBSONEXPRESS.COM.   We are staying at the Lompoc Elks Lodge.  The total distance for today was 98 miles.  That added to yesterday’s ride gives me a total of 193 miles for my ride as of today.  The ride was very nice.  Some bike trails, some city roads, some rural roads and some freeways.  I was able to get help from another bicyclist, Marco, navigating thru UC Santa Barbara.  That is a large campus and easy to get lost on.  I got a little(?) sunburn on  my leg today.  Guess I better get that sunscreen out!!  My sister Laurie and her son Alex, who live in Solvang, came to visit me today and we had a nice visit.  Tomorrow we will head out for Morro Bay.  Til then…saving lives one mile at a time.  Just ride – – – Wes & Judy

Today the first leg of our journey has begun.  We had a large gathering of about 50 people at the Seal Beach Pier.  It was a great send-off.  There was about 30 people on bikes who started out with me and some who joined up along the way.  The first stop was Tammie’s Corner House Cafe in Hermosa Beach.  The food and service was great!!!  After our meals, it was time to say our fond farewells.  It was tough leaving but everyone seemed excited to see me pedal off into the wind.  I made it to the final stop for the evening at Port Hueneme around 4:45PM.  The total riding distance for the day was 95 miles.  I had very good luck with traffic.  The toughest part was negotiating the bike trail along the strand.  Everybody bikes crazy there.  It was good to get on the road where the cars were.  Sounds crazy I know but at least I know what to expect from the cars.  Getting ready for tomorrow:  Next stop – – –  Lompoc, CA
