Hello Fans, Friends and Family

Thursday, September 2nd:  My bicycle ride began this morning at 8:30 on West Hwy 84.  The roads were mostly pretty nice.  Most of them had a good shoulder and some had no shoulder.  Most of the ride however, was on rolling hills, which is one of my favorite terrains.  At one point in my travels today, Judy was waiting for me by the Kisatchie National Forest Ranger Station.  She wanted to make sure I took a picture of the tower that they use to watch for fires during lightning storms and dry seasons.

In one small town they were having road construction over a bridge and they were only letting the cars go in one direction at a time.  It was controlled by a traffic signal and I waited behind a car in the traffic lane.  When the light turned green, I tried to keep up with the traffic as they crossed the bridge.  Towards the top I was falling behind and someone was honking at me.  I signaled for him to pass and kept as close to the edge as possible.  I guess it doesn’t matter what state you are in, some people are always in a hurry.  As I approach the town of Natchitoches, Louisiana I continue onto LA Hwy 6 into town.  Along the way I spot an “Air Mail” mail box.  I’d like to watch this delivery.  I arrive in the downtown area and the road is paved with brick and very narrow.  There are a lot of unique small shops along the road and you can take a horse-drawn carriage ride to wherever you want to go.  I come to the end of the brick road and the downtown area and turn left until, after cycling 72 miles, I arrive at Walmart in Natchitoches, LA.  I am doing this bicycle ride to raise money and awareness in the fight against Leukemia and Lymphoma.  Donations may be made by visiting http://www.gsf.lls.llsevent.org/JACOBSONEXPRESS.  During the month of September you can make your donation count twice as much.  Larry Stern, a friend and fellow cyclist, has offered to match donations made during this month.  You can read the details of his offer in an email posted at the end of my blogs for August 29-31 and September 1.  Until next time . . .
