Sunday, February 27th, 2011:  We are still spending a lot of time in Pahrump, NV.  I don’t get a lot of cycling done while I am here.  I tend to ride a lot more when I am in California.  It is colder in Pahrump right now and the roads are not as bike friendly as California.  Instead we have been working on our taxes and refining our blog, hoping to make it into a book in the near future.  I have given my grandson, Ty, who is 12 years old, a challenge to cycle 1200 miles this year.  He rides his bike 3 miles round trip to school most days.  In addition, he rides with me on group and other rides when I am in California.  As of today he has cycled 317 miles this year and is well ahead of schedule.  I think he will make it with no problem.  Judy and I went to the casino for lunch today.  It was a 2 for 1 brunch buffet and cost us $7.00.  While we were there I put $5 in a slot machine and came out with $12.  I decided to try it again.  My next $5 gave me back $27.30.  I thought I might try one more time, this time I lost my $5!  Before leaving the casino Judy asked me for $5 so she could try to win.  She lost her $5 also so we gave up and went home.  I spent $20 and walked out with $39.30 so I came out ahead $19.30 and Judy owes me $5.00!

Sunday, February 13th:  This weekend was spent in Palm Springs.  We took our 12 year old grandson, Ty, with us.  Ty and I met up with my brother-in-law, Bob, his son Mark, our friends Don, Erik and 2 of his friends.  Friends from our bike club, Mike, Richard and Linda also showed up.  We all did the 55 mile ride.  There were an estimated 10,000 riders for this event.  In the first picture we are getting ready for the ride.  The next picture is of the riders starting out on the ride.  The following picture is of my friend Mike.  He is the second rider wearing a SCOR jersey.  I then have 3 photos of my grandson, Ty, one front view and two from the rear.  On the 55 mile ride they had 3 rest stops.  There were a lot of riders at each rest stop to help refresh the riders.  We witnessed quite a few riders fixing flat tires and a few who had experienced accidents.  None of the riders in our group had any problems except for Don who had a mechanical problem at the start of the ride and was unable to continue.  The weather was great and the event was well organized.  Looking forward to doing it again next year.

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011:  It has been a long time since my last blog.  I have not done a lot of riding since I finished my ride around the United States.  I have logged in less than 200 miles so far this year but I am ready to start getting in more miles.  This coming weekend I will be riding the “Tour de Palm Springs” that I have previously done for the past few years.  I will be riding with my brother-in-law, some of our friends, members of my bike club, and my 12 year old grandson.  We will be doing the 55 mile ride.  I did the 100 mile ride last year, but my grandson wants me to ride with him in the 55 mile ride this year.  This will be the 3rd time he has ridden the 55 mile ride in Palm Springs.  He told me this weekend that next year he will do the 100 mile.  I’ll have to help him get ready for it this year to make sure he can do it.  I need to get back in shape also.  I have relaxed a little too much since the end of my ride around the country and have since paid the price.  It’s easy to lose it if you don’t use it.  I’ll bring my camera with me to Palm Springs and try to take some nice pictures.  Maybe I’ll see you there?
