Back to Nevada

May 30, 2011

Sunday, May 29, 2011:  Wanted to go for a ride today, but my rib is still sore and was bothering a bit much today.  Instead I practiced riding the bike with one leg at a time for about a half an hour.  It’s a little harder than you would think, but they say it is good for you.  Improves your pedal stroke, I guess.  After that Judy and I packed up the car and drove back to Nevada.  We will stay here a couple of weeks or so and then pack up again, this time heading for Nebraska for Judy’s Annual Alumni.  I think I will take a few days off the bike.  I’ll see if that helps reduce the pain in my rib.

North County “B” Ride by wildwes49

May 28, 2011

Saturday, May 28, 2011:  Today we had a pleasant 35 mile ride into Hacienda Heights.  We had a nice cool morning with a little bit of hill climbing.  We had a total of 6 riders including myself.  My 12 year old grandson was with us and did very well keeping up with us even on the hills.  We did have one rider who was not ready even for the mildest climbs and we had to wait at almost every turn for him to catch up.  Oh well, at least we were able to enjoy being outdoors on our bikes!  You can view the details of todays ride by clicking on the link below.

Good Day Cafe by wildwes49

May 26, 2011

Wednesday, May 25, 2011:  Today’s ride started at Liberty Park in Cerritos.  We began the ride down the river trail about 3 miles to El Dorado Park where they were having Senior Olympics Bicycle Time Trials.  The race had not yet started but we were able to talk with a friend who was participating in the event.  We continued down the river trail to coast which we followed until we arrived at Good Day Cafe for breakfast.  After breakfast we returned via the same route until we arrived again at El Dorado Park.  The races were still going on so we stayed for awhile and cheered some of the participants on.  After that we returned to the starting point to finish our ride.  You can view the details of today’s ride by clicking on the link below.  Saturday’s ride will also start from Liberty Park at 8:am and will be a 35 mile ride with some hills.  It will be at a “B” pace (avg 14 mph) and helmets are required.  All are welcome to join the ride.

Huntington Beach/Norwalk (60 Miles) by wildwes49

May 24, 2011

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011:  Today I rode from Huntington Harbour to meet some friends at the cross-over bridge on the San Gabriel River Trail.  We took a nice casual ride down the coast to Main Street, Huntington Beach for breakfast.  After breakfast we rode back to the San Gabriel River Trail, to the cross-over bridge, and on to Guido’s Gate before heading back.  On the way back I exited at Del Amo Blvd and took Bellflower Blvd to Pacific Coast Highway and continued south on PCH until I returned to my starting point.  You can view details of todays ride by clicking on the link below.

Best of Brea by wildwes49

May 22, 2011

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011:  Today I was supposed to meet club members at Liberty Park in Cerritos for a 28 mile ride to Whittier and back.  No one from the club showed up, but there was a rider who came to ride with us.  After it was obvious no one was going to show except for us, we decided to take a slightly longer 35 mile ride up to Brea and back.  I didn’t know exactly how to get to the restaurant the club had scheduled for the ride to Whitter, and my new friend Matt wasn’t too interested in stopping for a meal.  I chose the Brea ride because I was very familiar with it and knew it had a lot of nice roads and scenery.  A little over half way into our ride he noticed a box on a front lawn with the word “free” on it.  He stopped and found that it was full of Tangelos.  He grabbed 2 for us and that was enough of a snack for us.  He was a stronger rider than I was and gave me a good workout.  At the end of the ride he said he enjoyed the route and would like to this one again.  Today’s route can be viewed by clicking on the link below:

Playing Around Palos Verdes by wildwes49

May 22, 2011

Saturday, May 21st, 2011:  Met with my cycling club SCOR at Liberty Park in Cerritos, CA.  We had a lot of riders show up for today’s ride, but only 4 of them wanted to go with me on the ride to Palos Verdes.  The others opted for a shorter, flat ride.  Our ride was 60 miles with one good climb and a few rollies.  There was another good climb for this ride but at least one of us wanted to go around this hill.  To keep us all together we all skipped the last hill, saving it for another day.  To view the details of today’s ride, click on the link below:

Dana Point Loop by wildwes49

May 20, 2011

Thursday, May 19th, 2011:  Today I did an 85 mile solo ride from Huntington Harbour along the coast to Dana Point.  I then headed inland , doing a loop that brought me back to Newport Beach, where I finished up the last leg of my ride along the coast back to the starting point.  It was a cool day, and although I made a couple of wrong turns along the way, causing me to have to back-track a few miles, I really enjoyed the ride.  Tomorrow I will meet a friend of mine at the same start point.  The starting time will be a little earlier and we will probably not ride quite as far as today.  You can view details of today’s ride by clicking on the link below.  Under the link I have a few pictures of the coast at Inspiration Point in the Newport Beach area.

Hello Fans, Friends and Family

May 17, 2011

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011:  Rainy day today.  I was hoping to go for a ride today, but I think I will wait for drier  weather.  Tomorrow is predicting rain also, but it is supposed to dry up after that.  The first dry day I get I will get out and ride again.  This Saturday, May 21, I will meet with members of my bike club SCOR, at Liberty Park in Cerritos, CA for a 60+ mile ride around Palos Verdes.  It is a nice ride with some hills.  I am hoping for no rain on Saturday so that the ride does not get cancelled.  The ride will be at a “B” pace with speeds from 14 to 18 mph.  Helmets are requred on all rides.  For anyone interested in joining in on the ride, it will start at 8:AM at Liberty Park, in Cerritos, CA.

May 15, 2011

Saturday, May 14th, 2011:  Today’s ride consisted of 14 riders including myself.  The ride started at the entrance to Emma Wood State Park in Ventura.  We all started out together but after about 20 miles it was evident that we had 2 groups:  A faster group and a slower group.  The faster group stopped for breakfast in Santa Barbara while the slower group opted to stop for breakfast in Summerland.  After breakfast we headed back to Santa Barbara staying a little closer to the shore.  It was a nice cool day and the scenery was gorgeous!  You can view the details of the ride by going to the link below.  Under the link are some pictures I took while on today’s ride.
