September 26, 2011

Sunday, 25 September 2011:  It was a beautiful day for a bike ride this morning.  I arrived at Liberty Park and was met by one member of my club for this morning’s ride.  We headed into Long Beach where we took a tour of an area called Naples.  After riding through this very scenic area by the water we contininued on to Huntington Beach where we had lunch at Lucci’s Italian Deli.  The last part of our ride was along the coastline and up the San Gabriel River Bike Trail back to Liberty Park.  You can view the details of today’s ride by clicking on the link below:

Saturday, 24 September 2011:  This morning six of us started our ride from the library in Fountain Valley and headed towards Irvine.  We turned right on Jeffrey then followed Ridgeline to the top ofTurtlerock.  The ride continued to Balboa Island where we crossed the bay on a ferry boat. We stopped at Woodie’s in Newport Lido for breakfast before returning to Fountain Valley Library.  We had a very nice pace today but it was an extremely foggy morning making it difficult to see through our glasses.  You can click on the link below the picture to view the stats of today’s ride.

Fun in La Habra Heights by wildwes49

September 23, 2011

Friday, 23 September 2011:  Today’s ride started at Liberty Park where I met with a cycling friend.  We rode down the San Gabriel River Bike Trail to the connector bridge to Coyote Creek Bike Trail where we were joined by 3 other cyclists.  We headed northeast on the Coyote Creek Bike Trail to until it ended at Foster Rd.  We then continued on surface streets up to Whittier and La Habra and took in the fun hills of La Habra Heights.  There were quite a few of both uphills and downhills.  Some of the hills gave us a little challenge.  The ride was challenging but also a lot of fun.  My friends said they would like to do this ride again.  You can view the details of today’s ride by clicking on the link below.

Sunset Beach by wildwes49

Thursday, 22 September 2011:  Today I was supposed to meet some friends at Liberty Park in Cerritos, CA for a moderate bike ride.  One of the riders called to say he couldn’t make it and the others started at another location due to mis-communication.  I started out on my ride by myself and within a couple of miles I met another cyclist I knew from the Cyclepaths heading in the opposite direction.  I made a quick U-turn annd caught up with him.  He was riding riding with another cyclist to meet a group for a ride to Sunset Beach.  We stopped to wait for the other group at Del Amo Blvd.  We joined up with them as the zipped past us.  We continued down the San Gabriel River Bike Trail to Seal Beach and followed the coast to Warner Ave in Sunset Beach.  On our way back we stopped at McDonald’s in Seal Beach for a coffee break.  I had a good time making new cycling friends that I may ride with again sometime.  I always enjoy a bike ride more when I ride with others.  There was a heavy marine layer for most of the day and it was fairly cool with not much wind.  You can click on the link below to view the stats of today’s ride.

Solana Beach Century by wildwes49

September 19, 2011

Saturday, 17 September 2011:  This is the day of SCOR’s Annual Century Bicycle Ride from Fullerton AMTRAK Station to Solana Beach, CA.   I volunteered to ride sweep for the club.  My job was to stay with the last riders to make sure that no one had a problem on the way to the finish line.  There were a total of 15 riders on today’s ride.  In the first picture are three of the riders that I rode with for most of the ride.  In front is Ann Marie, and behind her are Denise and her husband, Richard.  It was a perfect day for a ride like this.  The weather was cool with a little mist for part of the ride, warming up a little as the day progressed.  Richard and I were the last ones to arrive at the hotel and had ridden about 90 miles.  He has never done a century ride before and decided he would like to do it on this ride.  We continued riding south for about 4 or 5 miles, then headed back towards the hotel.  We were still a little short of 100 miles so we continued north until I knew we would make 100 miles and then returned to the hotel.  We arrived back at the hotel with just a little over 100 miles.  In the next picture is Richard in the jacuzzi, biking outfit and all.  That evening he got a medal at the awards ceremony for completing his first century.  I also took a picture of the mileage on my bike computers to prove his accomplishment.  You can view the stats of today’s ride by clicking on the link below the pictures.

Long Beach and Norwalk by wildwes49

September 17, 2011

Friday, 16 September 2011:  Today I had a friendly ride with 7 other cyclists.  Rode from Liberty Park in Cerritos to Downtown Long Beach for breakfast, and back to Liberty Park.  I then rode a few extra miles to Norwalk with one of the other riders before finishing my ride at Liberty Park.  It was a cool day, overcast with a very light drizzle most of the morning.  Tomorrow I will be doing about a hundred miles from Fullerton to the San Diego area.  It is an annual event for my bike club and should be a lot of fun.  To check the details of today’s ride you can click on the link below.

Scenic Tour of Long Beach by wildwes49

September 16, 2011

Thursday, 15 September 2011:

Did today’s ride with a friend to map out a new ride for our club. I had to stop at most of the turns to make a note of the mileage. We viewed the Skyline of Long Beach from Signal Hill, rode the LA River Trail, went thru Shoreline Village, around the Lighthouse and thru Cal State University, Long Beach, saw the Pyramid and entered the San Gabriel River Trail via the Nature Center at El Dorado Park before returning to our starting point.  A very scenic ride at a leisurely pace.  You can view the details of today’s ride by clicking on the link below.
